February’s Games for Gold have been announced as zombie-RPG Dead Island and action/strategy game Toy Soldiers: Cold War.

Dead Island, a first-person RPG survival game developed by Techland, will be free from February 1st. The game sees you struggling to survive a zombie outbreak on an island holiday resort, and should be a welcome addition to your gaming catalogue.

On the 16th, Gold members will be treated to Signal Studios’ Toy Soldiers: Cold War, an interesting little shooter/strategy hybrid that has you repelling an Soviet invasion taking place in a child’s bedroom.

Since beginning last July, the promotion has come in for some criticism over the games being offered. Most complaints were about the majority of the games seeming to be from early-on in the Xbox 360’s lifespan, whereas gamers were hoping for a service more in-line with Sony’s PS+, which frequently sees relatively recent games being offered. However, with more-recent games like United Front Games’s Sleeping Dogs being offered as January’s first free game, and now Techland’s Dead Island (though admittedly not the most recent entry in the series) being offered from February 1st, could we be seeing a change? If the service has disappointed you so far, let us know what games you’d like to see on the service in the future.
