Square Enix have released six more screenshots for the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Whereas the last set of screenshots from Square Enix showed that they were actually trying to make the sequel to Final Fantasy XIII fun (Chocobo racing!), these latest screenshots don’t really tell that much on first glance. However, a further look will allow you to pick up on some subtleties.

First off, you can now see that expanding the Crystarium doesn’t just open up new abilities, but also gives you a chance to choose a “Level Bonus” which can range from available roles being boosted and learning new roles to being able to do more actions per characters turn. I assume you can’t do a ‘do over’, so you’ll have to think carefully. You can also see what skills your character will gain next, allowing more careful planning. And finally it seems even your monster allies have a Crystarium of their own.

Speaking of monsters, you’ll notice in the screenshot that the infamous Flan is wearing sunglasses. Yup, in a pointless but fun feature, Square Enix will allow you to find decorative additions for your monsters. They give no bonus whatsoever and are there just to make your monster kicking ass look good, hence the “pointless” part.

Finally, the screenshots serve as a reminder that Final Fantasy XIII-2 is looking fantastic.
