Free Games With Gold Is Not Assassins Creed 2 Or Halo 3

Instead we are given – DRUMROLL – Xbox LIVE Arcade game, Defense Grid The Awakening. Yes, I’m just as disappointed as you are. Major Larry Nelson quickly rushed to defend the decision and settle confusion on his Twitter feed:

FAQ: “Halo 3” and “Assassin’s Creed II” were mentioned as part of the program – no date was given for their release 

Assassins Creed 2 and Halo 3 are mentioned in the E3 clip provided. The exact words used are:

and to kick off that program I’d like to share just two of the titles we’re going to offer over the next few months – Assassin’s Creed two, and Halo three

So of course gamers, including myself, believed we were going to get these two titles first. Fable 3 was a lovely way to kick start the Games With Gold idea, but choosing a title that seems to be a random choice has left gamers bitter and angry.


Defense Grid The Awakening is an Xbox LIVE Arcade game that was released back in 2009. The game appears to be a sort of tower defense game against aliens. So far, I’m not sold. Indeed, the game is free so we shouldn’t be complaining. But there are so many, many titles that could have been chosen instead. This one seems to be a big let down.
