There has been a bunch of Xbox One rumours circulating the world wide web today, thanks to an “insider” on the NeoGAF forums, but perhaps none more intriguing then the potential HD remake of Halo 2.

Halo 2 was released for the original Xbox back in 2004 and introduced dual-welding weapons to the Halo universe. In addition Bungie also created their matchmaking multiplayer mode when Xbox Live was still in its infancy. Halo 2’s multiplayer is still fondly remember by fans of the series and often viewed as the best Halo multiplayer experience.

The rumours state that Halo 2 Anniversary would be an exclusive title for the Xbox One (Sorry 360 gamers, you’ll need to upgrade), released on November 11th and would bring with it a invitation to the beta for Halo 5, very similar to how Halo ODST was used to include a beta for Halo Reach. They also mention that Halo 2 Anniversary could be the sole Halo FPS release for 2014 and that Halo 5 will be delayed and released in 2015.

There’s also thought to be a second version of Halo 2 Anniversary called “War Collection” which will also include ports of Halo 3 and Halo 4. Whether any of these remakes/ports will include the multiplayer isn’t confirmed, but it’ll be crazy not to include them when you consider the user base that stay playing Halo through the multiplayer far after the singleplayer campaign has been finished.

Of course Microsoft have yet to confirm nor deny these rumours, but it certainly seems like something they would be interested in doing since they have already brought us Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary. Having somehow missed Halo 2 originally (even though I owned a copy), I’ve been waiting for the chance to go back and play it, and this would give me the perfect opportunity with the improved HD visuals and possibly the first next gen multiplayer Halo game.

Stay tuned here at Push-Start for any further developments.
