Microsoft has announced its “largest investment” ever in live action and it comes in the form of a Halo 4 web series entitled “Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn.” This series will encourage interest back into the Halo franchise before its reboot with the release of Halo 4 on the Xbox 360 in early November. 343 Industries are taking over the ‘Halo’ franchise from Bungie Studios and Frank O’Connor, franchise development director at 343 Industries informs that, “Demand grew more and more out of the two little vignettes we’d previously produced.”

This series will focus on encouraging gamers who haven’t played any of the Halo games and will provide access to the franchise through live action.  The website Variety has indicated that, “”Forward Unto Dawn” will play out over five weekly installments, around 15 minutes each, telling an original story about the game’s Master Chief and how he inspired a young UNSC cadet who will eventually become a leader aboard the UNSC Infinity spacecraft.”

As the Halo franchise comes back into the fray, they’ll need to retake the throne from Call of Duty who in recent years have broken sales records. Before that was the success of Halo 3, which amassed $300 million worldwide in its first week so the series has great pedigree.

Matt McCloskey director of franchise business management at 343 Industries assures audiences that “The Halo 4 web series is not just a marketing piece” and that as a company, “we wanted to go way beyond that and transform this live-action exploration from advertising into a full standalone product that people will enjoy.”
