Harmonix announces Rock Band Blitz for XBLA and PSN

Over the years I’ve grown very fond of music rhythm games to the extent of owning 9 guitars, 3 microphones, 2 drum kits, and a keyboard (all plastic of course). I’m always on the lookout for the next release from Activision or Harmonix, so imagine my interest when I spot a new Rock Band game over on G4TV.

However…things aren’t always what they seem! Rock Band Blitz is a very different experience than what you’d expect from the series, and instead plays more like Harmonix’s early titles including FreQuency, Amplitude, or even the PSP exclusive Rock Band Unplugged.

Heading to Xbox Live Arcade and the PSN this Summer, Rock Band Blitz uses your standard controller to allow you to jump into an over the top, fast, fun and frantic experience. Instead of the focus on performance and authenticity, Blitz is much more of an arcade experience allowing you to hop between all the instruments on offer. The good news is that it works with all the Rock Band songs you’ve previously purchased through the store -though it will come packed with 25 songs-, allowing you to Rock out to over 3700 potential songs! Another mechanic introduced in Blitz is the pinball which will bounce around, meaning that you’re playing something along the lines of Pong while you simultaneously manage the Guitar, Bass, Vocals, Drums, and even Overdrive.

G4TV had the exclusive announcement via an X-Play Spot, and embedded below you can find the trailer, as well as a talk with Matthew Nordhaus (Project Director) from Harmonix who explains in detail how the gameplay works. Also worth noting is that they’ve just passed the four year mark of weekly Rock Band song releases. Rock Band Blitz will be hitting this Summer for Xbox Live Arcade and PSN.
