To celebrate 10 years of Xbox being in the console market, Xbox.com have revealed a timeline where you can view all the key moments (some minor, many major) over the last 10 years

When Microsoft first announced it would enter the console market, most gamers, journalists and analysts either laughed, raised an eyebrow or pretended to not hear anything. And when the Xbox debuted in 2002 (2001 in North America) it was almost seen as a flop and Microsoft would go back to PC gaming with its tales between its legs. Thanks mainly to a certain game called Halo: Combat Evolved however, it managed to get enough attention and do well enough to grant Microsoft another chance at cracking the console market and now in 2012 the Xbox 360 has sold around 66 million and “18 million Kinect sensors [have been] sold worldwide to date.” It’s also fair to say that Microsoft is more focused on consoles then PC gaming.

To celebrate their 10 years, Xbox.com have created a timeline:

“To commemorate the UK 10th Anniversary, we’re taking a journey back to the key milestones that have catapulted Xbox into the living rooms of millions of families in Britain and beyond. To celebrate our success, made possible by Xbox fans across the globe, we have created an interactive timeline of the platform’s ten year history. It commemorates the original console launch through to the controller-free revolution with Kinect, and the host of live TV, music, movie and social media partners on Xbox LIVE who are helping us change the way people enjoy entertainment in their living rooms.

“The timeline is available on Xbox.com and takes you on your own personal journey from your first Xbox experience through the hardware, software and entertainment launches over the last 10 years.”

There is also a twitter conversation where you can share any memorable Xbox memories using the #xboxis10 hashtag.
