Microsoft Officially Announce $99 Xbox 360 Bundle

Last week there were rumours of Microsoft releasing a new Xbox 360 Bundle for $99, now though it is official, IGN reports.

For $99 people will receive a 4GB Xbox and Kinect, along with a two year Xbox Live gold subscription. However each month of gold costs $14.99 and is added to your credit/debit card. If you choose to cancel the subscription before the two years is up players will be charged with a termination fee. Players will also be charged a return fee as well if the Xbox is brought back before the 30 day return period.

It’s important to note that this bundle is only available in the United States.

Even without the termination fee, this does not seem like a particularly great deal seeing as you can buy one year’s worth of Xbox Live for $48. The total amount that you would be paying for the Xbox and the Xbox Live for 2 years would be $459, which is not a good deal considering it’s only a 4GB Xbox.

There are cheaper deals out there that range from $199 to $275 (from Amazon) with the Xbox Live, however even with Xbox Live it would still prove to be cheaper. This bundle does seem to be a bit of a con if you have the choice of buying it flat-out, though it does give an opportunity to people on a low income to get in on the game, even if it will cost them more overall.
