Bungie’s latest upate went into some detail on what’s going on behind the scenes with Halo Reach. We’ve got some new images and a bunch of information to keep your Reach thirst quenched.

One of the first things they talk about are the vehicles. Fans have been flooding them with questions about their beloved warthog, ghost, and tanks and Bungie delivers.

    • Overall vehicles are “much, much meatier” than they were in the Beta.
    • Vehicles will no longer just explode on their own, “GTA style.” Vehicles will only blow up from direct player damage. So, no more killing an opponent and flying away only to have your flaming vehicle suddenly explode on you.
    • Vehicle damage will now partially transfer to the player, just like you’re used to in Halo 3. You’ll see this represented in your own shield/health meter as your vehicle takes damage.
    • Even cooler – the damage that a player takes depends on the location of the damage being done relative to the player. So, if you throw a grenade underneath a Warthog, the driver is going to take a little bit of damage. If you throw a grenade into the sun roof or windshield, the driver will take significantly more damage.

It’s no secret that the Service Record page just wasn’t there. Now we’ve got an image of the new Service Record page below.

As you can see, there are several commendations that you can earn. This is a great way to keep the more casual players interested because they’ll still be getting rewarded regardless if they lose or not. Reach will cater to all players significantly more then Bungie’s previous installments. Making the game more fun all around. Here’s what we think most of the commendations mean.

  • Any Spree – Records anything that is a double kill and above.
  • Sidearm – Getting kills with your secondary weapon.
  • One Shot – Headshots
  • Heavy Weapon – Kills with rockets or the gravity hammer possibly.
  • Multikill – Spress of 3 or more.
  • Trigger Man – Most kills on a team

Selecting the highlighted section on the left will prompt the player with the largest amount of stats seen in any Halo game. The screen is set up this way in order to show the most  advanced commendations towards the top. The image above only shows multiplayer specific commendations but if the player goes into other modes, then those will be spread throughout as well. And yes, other modes. Single player will be included, but what else could their be? Are they discussing different multiplayer modes, such as capture the flag or oddball, or are they hinting at the inclusion of Firefight possibly making a return? Up for interpretation at this point.

Armor Permutations are one of the most exciting moments of Reach. There weren’t that many shown in the beta, and we’re all eagerly awaiting what they will look like. The armory is now up and running and will have a slue of cosmetic upgrades. Here’s a picture of one of the new pieces of armor(and my new personal favorite.)

You also see that there is a knee guard option available as well. All piece names are set in stone and are ready to go.

Last but not least, are the player rank icons. There weren’t many shown and these are more than likely the ranks that you’ll see when you first start playing. Some weren’t shown, as Bungie said,  “We too hot.”
