The inexplicably sprightly and young-looking Sam Fisher espionages his way through Splinter Cell: Blacklist‘s latest politically-drenched ‘Inauguration’ trailer.

Along with some new (darker) environments, story elements and gameplay possibilities, a definitive release date is also provided. It’s a little later than initially touted – instead of Spring 2013, we can now hope to wear those goggles August 23, 2013.

The expected political intrigue arrives thick and fast and, if the promotional campaign so far is to be believed, gone are the days where Sam’s personal miseries are as much in the spotlight as the plight of the state-side government. That being said, Ubisoft seem to have reigned in the whole super-soldier-killing-thousands-in-one-super-awesome-chain thing, instead focussing on the tenants that once made the series great: (as a popular online animator once mangled) sneaking that s**t.

Here’s praying that Sam’s future learns from the brilliance of chaos theories past.

The new trailer can be watched below.
