Opinion: What Would I Like To See In Future WWE Games?

So WWE 2K14’s big release is just over a month away and the full roster has been revealed, with some DLC additions will be added some time after.  The WWE or WWF as it was back in the day has such a rich history, both with legendary superstars and iconic moments throughout the years.  In fact there’s so much history to choose from including WWE/WWF, WCW, ECW, how could you possibly pick your dream content for one game?  The truth is that it would be a ridiculous prospect to feature almost every iconic moment and fit in all our favourite wrestlers in one game, but over a series of future games, it’s a more likely prospect.

I was only speaking to a friend the other day on how we’d love to see more of a focus on WCW’s Monday Night Nitro.  Last year’s WWE’13 featured the awesome ‘Attitude Era’ mode, which focused on the Monday Night Wars, Monday Night Nitro vs. Monday Night Raw.  Obviously the main focus was on WWE’s Monday Night Raw and no matches or video clips were actually shown for Nitro.  Even though I have been fiercely loyal to WWE, I still used to flick over to TNT to see what was going on in the latest episode of Nitro.  But the truth is that I missed so many of WCW’s iconic moments, so it would be awesome to have some sort of ‘Monday Night Nitro’ mode, similar to that of the ‘Attitude Era’ mode, as it would give us an insight to the flip side of the coin in the Monday Night Wars.

After all you have the legendary NWO group that featured the likes of Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Macho Man and more.  Then you have the likes of the Icon Sting, Goldberg, DDP, Harlem Heat and so much more.  It’s something that could happen as WWE do own the rights to WCW, but whether we will ever see that happen, is a different matter all together.  The Monday Night Nitro Era could playthrough WCW’s peak years, right on through to its demise in which it lead to the WWE take over and the WCW Invasion storyline.  After all, there’s only so much of the WWE’s history that we could play out, until it perhaps begins to dry up.

Storylines are not the only topic of this article, because all those iconic moments wouldn’t happen if it wasn’t for the wrestling talent.  Again it’s almost impossible to feature every ECW, WCW and WWE character into one game.  On our closed Push-Start Facebook group we had a very interesting conversation of all the names that we would love to see in a WWE game.  So many were mentioned, and even more not so.  The topic started off with some of the names that were missing from the WWE 2K14 roster reveal, names of past and present.  Recent names such as Rob Van Dam, Curtis Axel, the Wyatt family, the Bella Twins are all names that are likely to be missing due to them not being on the roster at the time of development or being as relevant as they are now.  RVD and the Bellas have only recently resigned, the Wyatt’s are a new group and Curtis Axel not long ago was struggling to get any air time, but now he is the current Intercontinental champion.  So with a bit of luck, we might just see those names and some legends added with future WWE 2K14 DLC.

Despite current real life roster names being missing from the 2K14 list, it was the legends that sparked the real debate among the Push-Start members.  There are many great legendary names included in this year’s WWE 2K14, but who would I love to see in a WWE game?  There are simply too many to mention, so I’ll name but a few.  I would love to see the likes of The Icon Sting, Mr Perfect, Ravishing Rick Rude, Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts, The Rockers, Superfly Jimmy Snuka, Earthquake, Psycho Sid/Sid Vicious and so many more.  Several of my Push-Start colleagues mentioned the likes of The British Bulldog, Owen Hart, Kurt Angle, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Terry Funk, Doink the Clown,  Lou Thesz, Bruno Sammartino, Harley Race, The Steiner Brothers, The Four Horsemen.  So many names were thrown into the hat and so more not mentioned.  The possibilities for wrestlers of yesteryear and iconic moments are almost endless.  So with such a rich and vibrant history, perhaps WWE won’t run out of ideas anytime soon after all and it bodes well for its future, especially when moving into the next generation.
