Capcom
have detailed a new update for their zombie killing adventure Resident Evil 6, due Tuesday, 22nd January.

“Just about a month after title update one comes (wait for it) title update two, which brings even more subtle tweaks to the game on January 22.

Agent Hunt mode

-Now available without completing the game first
-Selectable criteria before joining a session: Stage, Region, other settings like Infinite Ammo and Friendly Fire

Stage Selection

-Individual stages within chapters can be accessed any time once completed

General updates

-QTE assist: Players can optionally activate QTE assist from Amateur difficulty inside any other difficulty level (handy for fighting a certain boss at the end of Leon’s campaign on Professional…)

-Some areas have had their difficulty adjusted based on feedback

Again, this will arrive Jan 22 as a title update, so just log on and by the magic of the internet, these features will appear.”

The unlocking of Agent Hunt before beginning one’s first play through somewhat diminishes the reward of completing the game. Other Resident Evil titles such as Resident Evil 5 kept extra game modes such as The Mercenaries locked until completion. Ada’s campaign was unlocked from the beginning in the first update (in a weird move, considering her campaign requires completion of the other three just to comprehend the narrative), so it seems there are now fewer and fewer rewards for finishing the game.

With regards to the adjusted difficulty, it will be interesting to see which areas they’ve decided to tweak (perhaps the Edonia sequence?) when the update comes out, and the QTE assist will help to ease the frustration of those who felt that there was far too much emphasis on QTEs in Resident Evil 6, making them quick and painless to allow them to get back to the action in harder game moves. Smart move.

These updates and tweaks allow for more player choice to create a more personal experience for Resident Evil 6, so keep them coming Capcom!
