After the hype this week of Ubisoft’s environmental initiative into greener product packaging, news is the new Shaun White Skateboarding game will get the first make-over. The first in the Shaun White skateboarding games franchise is set to be the starting point for the digital manuals, and the environmentally-responsible DVD case combo. The cases are officially being launched with Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction PC video game on April 30, 2010, but the Shaun White game will be the first to have both eco components on the market.

The move to help the environment will save 13 trees per tonne of paper used to make Ubisoft’s manuals, and will also become a more robust and intuitive way to receive information in-game. They have also partnered with Technimark, Inc. to produce 100% recycled polypropylene “ecoTech” DVD cases.

Shaun White is very positive about this approach:

“It’s pretty cool that Ubisoft is making a conscious effort to go green with its new video game packaging,” commented Olympic Gold Medalist Shaun White. “I’m excited for my new skateboarding game to come out and stoked that it will be the very first Ubisoft game to be part of their green packaging initiatives.”

This seems to be a great step forward to a greener tomorrow in the gaming industry. Lets hope more companies get on the eco-friendly band wagon!

Shaun White Skateboarding is due out late 2010, on PS3, and Xbox 360
