It has been recently discovered that Sega Europe have had some old IP rated by USK, the German ratings board for games. The games in question are:

  • Fighting Vipers
  • Sonic The Fighters
  • Virtua Fighter 2

USK Ratings give hints to SEGA’s new releases

Virtua Fighter 2 makes a lot of sense, as they are porting it to current gen already by way of it being inside Yakuza 5, the upcoming gangsta-em-up (sadly not yet coming to the West), but the others are more of a mystery. Fighting Vipers often gets left out of 3D fighter lists but certainly deserves a place on them, as it has its own unique charm. Sonic The Fighters (also known as Sonic Championship) however, is certainly only a curio. It has very little playability and really only exists for novelty value.

I see these three as a ‘Vintage Collection’ 3-pack, a la Revenge Of Shinobi, Alex Kidd and Super Hang-On. At least, if they want to sell them I see them as that, otherwise I think they’ll struggle. They’re also only rated for 360, which is a concern if you’re a PS3 owner who enjoys their classic fighting games.

Personally, I’d pick these up day one, more than likely. Assuming they’re actually being prepared for release, of course.
