Ubisoft today announced that Rayman Legends, the upcoming sequel to Origins, is coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 as well as the Wii U. It comes with one major pitfall, though: the Wii U version’s release will now be delayed all the way to “early September” so that it can be simultaneously released on all platforms.

Ubisoft Montpellier are heading up all 3 versions, and based on the strength of Rayman Origins this new adventure is greatly anticipated. Ubisoft suggest that this decision was primarily based on fan demand and “engaging a broader audience”, but it could also mean their expectations of the Wii U have fallen short.

All demos of the game so far have demonstrated a strong GamePad element to proceedings, using touch to guide Rayman. How this method can be implemented or circumvented in a traditional control system will be an interesting challenge; one which could determine which console you would really want this game for. As such, it seems safe to assume that the main version is still the Wii U one, and the others will be built around it. We will just have to wait and see.
