Kojima Productions teams up with A24 for Death Stranding movie
If there’s one video game developer that I’d always wanted to see dabble in the world of Hollywood, it’s Hideo Kojima the creator of the Metal Gear Solid series and Death Stranding.
Well, that wish is coming to reality, because a Death Stranding live-action movie was announced in December 2022. Details at the time were vague. However, it has now been announced that Kojima Productions is teaming up with A24 to adapt the world of Death Stranding onto the silver screen. A24 is known for its quirky horror and thriller movies such as Hereditary, Talk to Me, Midsommar and more. It may be a bit early to judge, but A24 seems like a decent pairing with Kojima Productions.
“A24 was born into this world about 10 years ago, their presence is singular within the industry, they are like no other. The films they are delivering to the world are high in quality and very innovative. I have been attracted to their creations and they have even inspired my own work,” said Hideo Kojima in a statement.
He continued: “Their innovative approach to storytelling aligns with what Kojima Productions has been doing for the last 8 years. Now, we are making a Death Stranding movie together. There are a lot of “game adaptation films” out there but what we are creating is not just a direct translation of the game. The intention is that our audience will not only be fans of the games, but our film will be for anyone who loves cinema. We are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never been seen before, achievable only through the medium of film, it will be born.”
At this time, the live-action Death Stranding movie does not have a release date nor have its actors been revealed. Though I’ll have my fingers crossed that Norman Reedus will star in some capacity.
In related news, Death Stranding 2 was also announced for the PlayStation 5 in December 2022, but at the time of writing, we still have no release date. Hopefully, we’ll get new details on the Death Stranding movie and the PS5 sequel in the months ahead.
