Angel Pouring might just be the strangest game this reviewer has ever played… it’s just odd. Angel Pouring, developed by Gravity Europe, is a puzzle game that is brimming with equal measures of cuteness, confusion and frustration. The main aim of the game is to clear a specific number of Porings during the time limit to complete a level. It’s a simple and straight forward premise to understand yet, in reality, it’s really hard.
Wondering what on earth Porings are? Well they’re these candy coloured, cuddly blobs that quickly become the bane of your existence. There are five different types of Poring. You’ve got the Common Pouring, a poring that comes in a variety colours. There are also the Devil Porings, a purple, horned Poring that disappears after ten seconds. There’s also the Fire Devil Poring, a fiendish Poring that explodes into many Devil Porings. There’s an Angel Poring, a Poring with the ability to clear the entire screen of these cuddly frustrations. Last, but not least, you have the Metal Poring. This last Poring is too suborn to be removed with conventional means and can only be cleared by Angel Porings.
In order to rid yourself of these little guys you must connect three of the same colour Poring. You can also circle three of the same Poring and turn it into a Bomb. Tap the bomb and watch all of the corresponding Porings get cleared in a satisfying chain reaction. Angel Poring not only takes full advantage of the iOS touch screen but also uses the built in sensors to allow you to jumble about the Porings. Shake left, right, up or down and the Porings will fly around the screen, they are at your mercy.
It was disappointing to discover that the multiplayer portion of Angel Poring was, at the time of review, not available to play. The Two Player Battle is simple enough to comprehend however. Simply get the higher score in thirty seconds and you win. Your reward? Cookies (apparently). As Angel Poring is connected to Open Feint, all your scores are stored on the Leaderboards.
Despite the game trying to help you at every turn, Angel Poring is pretty tough. For a casual puzzle game for the iOS, this game has an incredibly steep learning curve. It is the main source of the previously mentioned frustration. The Porings can quickly swarm you and if you can’t clear them in time, which is often the case, it’s game over. On occasion, Angel Poring also felt rather unresponsive. Coupled with the learning curve, it doesn’t make for a very enjoyable game.
All in all, Angel Poring is a game that shows promise. In its current form, it’s not very enjoyable. With an update or two and a working multiplayer, Angel Poring has the ability to be a fun little distraction. Plus, it’s 69p on the App store.
